LFX Computer Repairs

Terms

Terms and conditions for using the LFX Computer Repairs website and repair services.

LFX Computer Repairs – Terms & Conditions

Effective for bookings and repair authorisations made on or after 8 October 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to repair, diagnostic, maintenance, upgrade, data recovery, software, remote support, collection, delivery and related services supplied by LFX Computer Repairs.

Repairs booked or authorised before the effective date above remain subject to the terms, quotation and repair information applicable when that repair was agreed.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts a consumer’s statutory rights where those rights cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

1. Definitions

1.1 “LFX”, “we”, “us” or “our” means LFX Computer Repairs.

1.2 “Customer”, “you” or “your” means the person or organisation requesting or purchasing our services.

1.3 “Device” means any laptop, desktop computer, Apple Mac, Microsoft Surface, games console, storage device, component or other electronic equipment submitted to LFX.

1.4 “Services” includes inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, upgrades, software work, data recovery, remote support, collection, delivery and associated technical services.

1.5 “Quotation” means a price offered for specified work based on the information and condition known to us at that time.

1.6 “Estimate” means an approximate indication of likely cost and is not a fixed quotation.

1.7 “Part” or “Component” includes any replacement hardware, assembly, subassembly, consumable or electronic component supplied or fitted during a repair.

2. Formation of the Contract

2.1 These Terms apply when a Customer asks LFX to inspect, diagnose, repair or otherwise work on a Device.

2.2 A contract may be formed when the Customer:

  • accepts a quotation;
  • signs or accepts a booking or repair form;
  • gives written or verbal authorisation;
  • approves work by email, text message or another electronic method; or
  • otherwise instructs LFX to proceed.

2.3 The quotation, booking information, agreed repair specification and these Terms & Conditions together form the contract between the Customer and LFX.

2.4 Where a quotation contains specific information concerning a price, Part, Part classification, repair procedure or method, that specific information takes precedence over a more general provision in these Terms.

2.5 The version of these Terms applying to a repair will normally be the version in force when that repair was booked or authorised.

2.6 We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Unless required by law or expressly agreed with the Customer, changes will apply only to new bookings, repair authorisations or Services entered into after the revised Terms take effect.

3. Our Services

3.1 LFX will perform Services with reasonable care and skill.

3.2 Diagnosis of electronic equipment is not always conclusive at the first stage. One fault may prevent another fault from becoming apparent until the first fault has been repaired or rectified.

3.3 Repairing one fault does not mean that unrelated faults are included within the original quotation.

3.4 Where materially different or additional work becomes necessary, LFX will normally obtain the Customer’s approval before proceeding unless the Customer has already authorised expenditure up to a specified amount.

3.5 Estimated completion dates are not guaranteed unless LFX expressly agrees otherwise in writing.

3.6 Delays may result from Parts availability, suppliers, specialist third-party work, additional faults or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

4. Inspection, Diagnosis and Authorised Work

4.1 Initial advice and a basic visual inspection are normally provided without charge.

4.2 Chargeable diagnostic work applies where confirming a suspected fault requires dismantling, bench testing, test equipment, substitute or known-good components, or extended testing. This includes testing with known-good RAM or another substitute component to confirm whether the Customer’s original component is faulty.

4.3 Unless a different price is agreed, the charge for this confirmation testing is £40. LFX will state the applicable charge before beginning chargeable diagnostic work unless that work is already covered by an agreed authorised spending limit.

4.4 Where the booking, quotation or repair authorisation specifies an authorised spending limit, the Customer authorises LFX to perform diagnostic or repair work up to that amount without further approval.

4.5 A reported fault may sometimes be resolved during inspection, diagnosis, testing, adjustment, cleaning, configuration, disassembly or reassembly.

4.6 Where authorised work successfully resolves the fault during this process, that work remains chargeable even if a separate repair stage is no longer required.

4.7 Work properly completed cannot necessarily be reversed simply because the fault was resolved sooner than anticipated.

4.8 Where further work would exceed an agreed authorisation limit, LFX will normally seek further approval before proceeding.

4.9 If the Customer decides not to proceed after diagnosis, disassembly or other chargeable work has been carried out, the applicable inspection, diagnostic or labour charge agreed at booking or quotation may become payable.

5. Estimates, Quotations and Prices

5.1 Estimates are based upon information available at the time and may change following inspection or diagnosis.

5.2 Unless otherwise stated, written quotations are valid for 7 days.

5.3 A quotation applies only to the work, Parts and repair method described within it.

5.4 Additional faults or work falling outside the original quotation may require a separate quotation.

5.5 Prices quoted by LFX are retail prices. They may include the costs of sourcing Parts, checking compatibility, administration, handling, technical knowledge, warranty responsibility, business overheads, installation requirements and profit.

5.6 The price charged by LFX for a Part is not required to correspond to the wholesale, supplier, marketplace or online purchase price of that Part.

5.7 A component advertised independently by a supplier, marketplace or online retailer represents the price of that component from that seller and does not determine the price of a supplied-and-fitted repair service from LFX.

5.8 Where Parts and labour are separately shown on a quotation or invoice, those figures represent LFX’s retail charges. They should not be interpreted as disclosure of our wholesale cost, supplier cost or profit margin.

5.9 Our invoice to the Customer records the goods and Services supplied by LFX.

5.10 Supplier invoices, trade prices, trade account details, purchasing records and other business-to-business documents are commercially confidential and are not ordinarily provided to Customers, except where disclosure is required by law or legal process.

6. Replacement Parts and Part Classification

6.1 Replacement Parts may be supplied under different classifications.

Where a Part classification is stated or selected on the quotation, that classification forms part of the contractual description of the Part being supplied.

6.2 Genuine Manufacturer Part

A Genuine Manufacturer Part means a component represented by LFX as genuine to the original Device manufacturer, such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, Microsoft or Apple.

6.3 OEM Part

An OEM Part means a component identified or supplied as an Original Equipment Manufacturer component where LFX has a reasonable basis for describing it as such.

6.4 Compatible Replacement Part

A Compatible Replacement Part means a replacement component selected and supplied as compatible with the relevant make, model and required specification.

Unless expressly stated otherwise on the quotation, a Compatible Replacement Part is not represented as being manufactured, supplied or branded by the original Device manufacturer.

6.5 Manufacturer Variation

Computer and laptop manufacturers may use components manufactured by different specialist manufacturers within the same Device or model range.

Replacement screens, keyboards and other components may likewise be produced by different component manufacturers.

Accordingly, manufacturer, markings, construction, materials, finish, colour shade, tactile characteristics or other minor characteristics may differ from the component originally fitted.

Such differences do not by themselves mean that a Part is defective, provided that the replacement Part conforms to its agreed description, required specification and applicable statutory requirements.

6.6 Refurbished or Reconditioned Parts

A Part described as Refurbished, Reconditioned, Used or Reclaimed is not represented as brand new and will be identified accordingly where applicable.

6.7 Customer-Supplied Parts

A Customer-Supplied Part is a component supplied by the Customer for LFX to install.

Unless a quotation expressly states that a replacement Part is a Genuine Manufacturer Part or OEM Part, the Customer should not assume that it is manufactured or branded by the original Device manufacturer.

6.8 No Unauthorised Substitution

LFX will not knowingly substitute a materially different Part classification from that agreed on the quotation without obtaining the Customer’s approval.

7. Complete Assemblies and Component-Only Repairs

7.1 Manufacturers increasingly construct Devices using bonded, plastic-welded, riveted, adhered or otherwise integrated assemblies.

Examples include:

  • keyboards bonded into palmrests or top cases;
  • screens bonded into display assemblies;
  • touchscreens bonded to LCD panels;
  • batteries adhered into housings;
  • charging ports integrated into assemblies; and
  • other components incorporated into larger assemblies.

7.2 LFX may offer more than one method of repairing the same fault.

For example, a Customer may be offered:

  • replacement of a complete factory-style assembly; or
  • replacement of an individual component while retaining the Customer’s existing surrounding assembly.

7.3 These are different repair procedures and may involve different Parts, labour requirements, installation techniques and prices.

7.4 Where a quotation specifies a Component-Only Repair, the existing casing, palmrest, top plastics, lid, frame or other surrounding assembly will normally be retained.

7.5 Component-only repairs may require bonding, adhesive, plastic welding, rivet replacement, specialist fastening or another appropriate installation method.

7.6 Where a quotation specifies a Complete Assembly or Factory-Bonded Assembly, the complete assembly described in the quotation will normally be replaced.

7.7 The repair method selected and authorised by the Customer forms part of the agreed repair specification.

7.8 A Component-Only Repair should not be interpreted as the supply of a Complete Assembly unless the quotation expressly says so.

8. Customer-Supplied Parts

8.1 LFX may agree to fit a component supplied by the Customer.

8.2 LFX cannot guarantee the quality, compatibility, authenticity, condition or remaining lifespan of a Customer-Supplied Part.

8.3 Our Parts warranty does not cover Customer-Supplied Parts.

8.4 Labour properly performed remains chargeable if a Customer-Supplied Part subsequently proves faulty, incorrect or incompatible.

8.5 Additional labour required to diagnose, remove or replace a defective Customer-Supplied Part may be chargeable.

8.6 LFX remains responsible for exercising reasonable care and skill when performing the installation itself.

9. Pre-existing Damage and Disassembly Risk

9.1 Electronic Devices can contain deterioration or damage that is not visible externally.

This may include:

  • corrosion;
  • liquid contamination;
  • brittle plastics;
  • cracked solder joints;
  • weakened connectors;
  • degraded adhesive;
  • damaged screw mounts;
  • previously repaired components;
  • worn hinges;
  • failing storage devices;
  • depleted batteries; or
  • damaged cables and connectors.

9.2 Inspection and repair may require a Device to be dismantled.

9.3 Components weakened by age, heat, liquid, impact, previous repairs or deterioration may fail during otherwise reasonable diagnostic or disassembly procedures.

Examples include ZIF connectors, ribbon cable sockets, retaining clips, screw mounts, hinges, plastics, adhesives and soldered connectors.

9.4 By authorising repair, the Customer acknowledges that damaged, deteriorated, corroded, brittle or previously repaired components may not withstand normal diagnostic or disassembly procedures.

9.5 Failure of a component caused by a demonstrable pre-existing weakened condition despite reasonable care being exercised will not automatically constitute defective workmanship.

9.6 Nothing in this section removes LFX’s obligation to perform Services with reasonable care and skill.

10. Bonded Screens and Adhesive Assemblies

10.1 Certain screens, touch panels, batteries, keyboards and other components are bonded or adhered to Devices.

10.2 Removal may require heat, solvents, separation equipment, cutting tools or controlled mechanical force.

10.3 Age, previous repairs, impact damage, deteriorated adhesive or weakened surrounding materials can increase the risk of damage during removal.

10.4 LFX will use reasonable care and appropriate repair techniques.

10.5 Damage resulting solely from a demonstrable pre-existing weakened condition despite reasonable care being exercised will not automatically constitute defective workmanship.

11. Liquid Damage and Corrosion

11.1 Liquid-damaged Devices may continue to deteriorate after the original incident.

11.2 Cleaning corrosion or contamination does not guarantee that every affected component will recover or remain reliable.

11.3 Cleaning or repairing one affected area may reveal additional faults that were previously masked.

11.4 Liquid-damage cleaning or repair cannot guarantee the future reliability of components previously exposed to liquid or corrosion.

11.5 Where additional faults are discovered, further work may require a separate quotation.

12. Data and Backups

12.1 Customers are responsible for maintaining an up-to-date backup of important data before submitting a Device for repair wherever reasonably possible.

12.2 Hardware faults, failing storage devices, corrupted operating systems, malware, encryption and other existing problems may cause data to become inaccessible or permanently lost.

12.3 Certain repair procedures may require:

  • operating-system reinstallation;
  • formatting;
  • partition repair;
  • replacement of a storage device;
  • factory reset;
  • firmware reset; or
  • another procedure affecting stored information.

12.4 LFX will not intentionally erase Customer data without a repair-related reason or Customer authorisation where authorisation can reasonably be obtained.

12.5 LFX is not responsible for data loss caused solely by pre-existing hardware failure, failing storage media, corruption, malware, encryption problems, an existing inability to access the data or an unavoidable consequence of an authorised repair, provided that LFX has exercised reasonable care and skill.

12.6 Nothing in this section excludes liability for data loss resulting from our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.

13. Backup and Data Transfer Services

13.1 Where a Customer purchases a backup or data-transfer service, LFX will use reasonable care in attempting to copy accessible data.

13.2 Unless expressly agreed otherwise, a backup is not a forensic or sector-by-sector image of the original storage device.

13.3 Cloud-only files may not physically exist on the Device and therefore may not be included in a local data backup.

Examples include files stored exclusively through OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or another cloud service.

13.4 Installed applications, software licences, stored credentials, application settings and customised operating-system settings may not be transferable.

13.5 Customers should inspect transferred or recovered data as soon as reasonably practicable following return of the Device.

14. Data Recovery

14.1 Data recovery is an attempt to retrieve accessible data and cannot be guaranteed to succeed.

14.2 Faulty storage devices may deteriorate further during diagnosis or recovery attempts.

14.3 Where a service is expressly offered on a No Data Recovered, No Recovery Fee basis, the particular conditions of that offer will be stated or explained when quoting.

14.4 Diagnostic costs, replacement storage media, shipping costs or specialist third-party costs may still apply where separately disclosed and authorised.

14.5 Where external specialist recovery is recommended, known third-party charges will normally be explained before the storage device is sent away.

14.6 Successful data recovery does not guarantee recovery of every original file or that every recovered file will be complete or uncorrupted.

15. Operating Systems and Software

15.1 Operating-system installation or reinstallation may remove installed applications, settings and customisations.

15.2 Software licences and subscriptions belonging to the Customer remain the Customer’s responsibility.

15.3 LFX cannot guarantee that obsolete, unsupported or incompatible software will continue to function after an operating-system installation or update.

15.4 Software behaviour may subsequently be affected by operating-system updates, drivers, application updates, malware, third-party services or changes made by the Customer.

15.5 Software Services do not carry a guarantee against future changes outside LFX’s control.

15.6 This does not affect the Customer’s statutory rights concerning the Services actually performed by LFX.

16. No Fix No Fee

16.1 No Fix No Fee applies only where expressly offered for a particular Service.

16.2 Unless specifically agreed otherwise, No Fix No Fee does not apply where:

  • the Customer cancels after chargeable diagnostic or repair work has begun;
  • a fault is resolved during authorised diagnosis, cleaning, adjustment or testing;
  • a separately agreed inspection or diagnostic charge applies;
  • a Customer-Supplied Part is defective or incompatible;
  • authorised third-party costs have been incurred;
  • specialist data recovery has separate terms; or
  • remote support has been supplied.

16.3 Any applicable minimum charge or diagnostic charge will be disclosed when the Service is booked or quoted.

17. Additional Faults

17.1 A Device may contain more than one independent fault.

17.2 A secondary fault may only become apparent once another fault has been repaired.

17.3 Repair of the originally quoted fault does not automatically include unrelated subsequent faults.

17.4 Where materially additional chargeable work is required, LFX will normally obtain the Customer’s authorisation before proceeding.

18. Cancellation of Repairs

18.1 A Customer may ask LFX to stop work, subject to payment for Services already reasonably undertaken and costs already authorised.

18.2 Where Parts have been specially ordered for a repair, the Customer may be responsible for reasonable non-recoverable costs where permitted by law.

18.3 Labour and Services properly performed in accordance with the agreed repair remain chargeable where a Customer subsequently changes their mind or cancels after work has been undertaken.

18.4 This does not restrict statutory remedies where Services have not been performed with reasonable care and skill or otherwise fail to conform to the contract.

18.5 Where a contract genuinely qualifies as a distance or off-premises contract, any statutory cancellation rights applicable to that contract remain unaffected by these Terms.

19. Payment

19.1 Unless agreed otherwise, payment is due when the Service has been completed or when the Device is collected or returned.

19.2 LFX may require payment or a deposit before ordering Parts, commencing specialist work, providing remote support or sending equipment to a third party.

19.3 Where payment remains properly due, LFX may retain possession of the Device to the extent permitted by law.

19.4 A goodwill discount, payment, contribution or other concession offered by LFX does not constitute an admission of liability unless expressly stated otherwise.

20. Collection and Delivery

20.1 Collection and delivery charges are separate from repair charges unless expressly included in the quotation.

20.2 Where a minimum collection, delivery or diagnostic charge applies, it will be stated when the Service is booked or quoted.

20.3 An authorised person should be available to hand over or receive the Device at the agreed location.

20.4 LFX will exercise reasonable care while transporting Devices.

21. Uncollected Devices

21.1 Customers should normally collect Devices within 30 days of being notified that the Device is ready, unless another arrangement has been agreed.

21.2 A Device does not automatically become the property of LFX because it has not been collected.

21.3 Where a Device remains uncollected, LFX may issue written notice requiring the Customer to collect the Device and pay any amount properly outstanding.

21.4 Where a Device continues to remain uncollected following the appropriate notice procedure, LFX may exercise rights available under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 or other applicable law.

21.5 Those rights may include sale of the Device where the statutory requirements have been satisfied.

21.6 Proceeds from a lawful sale will be dealt with in accordance with applicable law after deduction of amounts properly due and permissible costs.

21.7 Customers are responsible for keeping their contact information reasonably current while LFX holds their Device.

22. Remote Support

22.1 Remote support requires a functioning internet connection and a Device capable of running the required remote-access software.

22.2 By commencing a remote-support session, the Customer authorises LFX to access and make reasonable changes to the Device for the purpose of providing the agreed support.

22.3 Customers should close confidential documents or applications they do not want visible during the remote-support session.

22.4 Remote-support charges are payable as agreed when booking.

22.5 Unless expressly stated otherwise, remote support is not covered by a general No Fix No Fee offer.

23. Warranty

23.1 Any warranty provided by LFX is a commercial warranty provided in addition to, and not instead of, the Customer’s statutory rights.

23.2 Warranty periods for replacement Parts may vary according to the Part, supplier and whether the Part is new, refurbished or reclaimed.

23.3 Where applicable, the relevant Parts warranty will be stated on the quotation, invoice or repair documentation.

23.4 Where LFX supplies and fits a replacement Part carrying a supplier or manufacturer-backed warranty, LFX may administer that warranty for the Customer where applicable.

23.5 Warranty applies to the Part or repair originally supplied and does not automatically cover an unrelated subsequent fault.

23.6 Warranty does not normally cover faults subsequently caused by:

  • accidental damage;
  • liquid damage;
  • misuse;
  • impact;
  • another repairer;
  • unauthorised modification;
  • malware;
  • external electrical faults;
  • incompatible accessories; or
  • another cause unrelated to the original repair.

23.7 Customer-Supplied Parts are excluded from LFX’s Parts warranty.

23.8 Software Services are not guaranteed against later problems caused by updates, malware, third-party software or changes made after the Device leaves our control.

23.9 The expiry of a commercial warranty does not remove any statutory rights the Customer may have where the goods or Services supplied by LFX do not meet the standards required by law.

24. Problems Following Repair

24.1 If a Customer believes there is a problem with work carried out by LFX, they should contact us promptly and provide details of the issue.

24.2 LFX may reasonably request an opportunity to inspect and test the Device to determine whether the issue relates to:

  • the original repair;
  • the supplied Part;
  • an unrelated fault; or
  • an external cause.

24.3 Where goods or Services supplied by LFX do not conform to the contract, statutory remedies remain available in accordance with applicable consumer law.

24.4 Depending upon the circumstances, statutory remedies may include repair, replacement, repeat performance, price reduction or another remedy provided by law.

24.5 A request for a refund or price reduction is not automatically established merely because the Customer subsequently prefers a different Part, brand, repair method or specification from that which was originally described, quoted and authorised.

25. Manufacturer Warranties

25.1 Independent repair may affect a Device manufacturer’s own warranty or support arrangements.

25.2 Unless expressly agreed otherwise, Customers are responsible for checking any existing manufacturer warranty conditions before authorising independent repair.

25.3 LFX does not represent that an independent repair will preserve a manufacturer’s warranty unless this has expressly been confirmed in writing.

26. Subcontractors and Specialist Services

26.1 LFX may use suitably experienced subcontractors or specialist repairers where appropriate.

This may include microsoldering, motherboard work, specialist data recovery or other specialist Services.

26.2 LFX will normally obtain Customer authorisation before incurring material third-party charges that have not already been approved.

26.3 Use of a subcontractor does not remove responsibilities that applicable law places upon LFX for Services contracted directly with LFX.

27. Limitation of Liability

27.1 Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

27.2 In particular, nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts statutory rights relating to goods or Services supplied to a consumer.

27.3 Subject to those rights, LFX is not responsible for loss or failure caused solely by:

  • pre-existing faults;
  • deterioration or corrosion;
  • failing storage devices;
  • pre-existing data corruption;
  • Customer misuse;
  • accidental damage;
  • Customer-Supplied Parts;
  • malware already present on the Device;
  • events outside our reasonable control; or
  • unavoidable consequences inherent in an authorised repair despite reasonable care being exercised.

27.4 LFX will remain responsible for providing Services with reasonable care and skill.

27.5 Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or another liability that cannot legally be excluded.

28. Business Customers

28.1 Where Services are purchased wholly or mainly for purposes relating to a Customer’s trade, business, craft or profession, the Customer may be acting as a business rather than as a consumer.

28.2 Consumer-specific statutory rights may therefore apply differently to business transactions.

28.3 Where separate business terms have expressly been agreed, those terms will apply to the extent stated.

29. Personal Data and Confidentiality

29.1 Personal information will be processed in accordance with applicable UK data-protection law and the LFX Privacy Policy.

29.2 LFX may access files or information on a Device where reasonably necessary to diagnose, test or complete the requested work.

29.3 Customer information will not deliberately be accessed beyond what is reasonably necessary to provide the Service.

29.4 Personal information may be processed by relevant service providers or specialist subcontractors where reasonably required to provide the authorised Service and where permitted by law.

29.5 LFX does not sell Customer personal information.

30. Passwords and Access Information

30.1 Where login credentials are required to diagnose or test a Device, the Customer may be asked to provide them.

30.2 Customers should change sensitive passwords following repair where appropriate.

30.3 LFX will take reasonable measures to protect access information while it is required for the repair.

31. Complaints

31.1 Customers dissatisfied with a Service should contact LFX and provide the repair or invoice reference, Device details, details of the problem and the remedy being requested.

31.2 LFX will review the complaint together with the available repair records.

31.3 LFX may request a reasonable opportunity to inspect or test the Device before determining whether an alleged problem relates to the original repair.

31.4 Nothing in this complaints procedure prevents a Customer from exercising any statutory right or dispute-resolution procedure available to them.

32. Website Information

32.1 Information on the LFX website is provided for general information concerning our Services.

32.2 Prices, Part availability and technical information may change.

32.3 General website information does not override the specific written quotation agreed for an individual repair.

32.4 Website content, branding, graphics and original material belonging to LFX may not be reproduced commercially without permission.

33. Severability

33.1 If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply so far as legally possible.

33.2 Where legally permissible, an invalid provision will be treated as modified only to the minimum extent necessary to make it lawful and enforceable.

34. Governing Law

34.1 These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

34.2 Nothing in this section removes any mandatory legal protection or jurisdiction rights available to a consumer.
